What Is Viagra?

Viagra is a prescription medication taken orally to treat male erectile dysfunction (ED).

Developed by Pfizer in the 1990s, Viagra is able to treat erectile dysfunction due its main active ingredient sildenafil - a phosphodiesterase type-5 (PDE5) blocker. Phosphodiesterase type-5 (PDE5) is an enzyme that regulates the flow of blood out of the penis. By blocking and slowing PDE5, both the muscles and the walls of blood vessels are able to relax. This then improves the blood flow going towards the penis, which helps men to get and maintain an erection.

Viagra is available in three different doses: 25 mg, 50 mg and 100 mg. 50mg is the most commonly prescribed dosage, especially for men who are new to Viagra. However, the dosage of Viagra prescribed will depend on your medical history and any medication & supplements you are currently on.

As it takes 30 to 60 minutes for Viagra for your body to absorb Viagra, it is recommended that you take Viagra about an hour before you have sex for best results. Once absorbed, Viagra is at its most effective for the first 3 to 4 hours before its effects start to wear off. There is a possibility that Viagra could last up to 5 hours or longer, but this will depend on the dosage of Viagra you consume, your body's metabolic rate and other factors.

Contrary to popular belief, Viagra will not miraculously give you an erection all by itself. In order for Viagra to work, you will still need to be aroused to get hard. Get yourself in the mood by engaging in some roleplay with your partner or with some solo pleasure.

What Is Revatio?

Revatio is a prescription medication that comes in oral suspension, tablet and injection form to treat the condition Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH). PAH occurs when arteries in your lungs are blocked or narrowed. This inhibits the blood flow to your lungs and increases the blood pressure in the lungs, making it harder for your heart to pump blood. Over time, the strain on the right side of the heart could build and lead to heart failure.

Also developed by Pfizer, Revatio entered the market in 2005 as a form of PAH treatment. Revatio also contains sildenafil, a phosphodiesterase type-5 (PDE5) blocker, as its main active ingredient. Sildenafil is able to help relax the arteries in your lungs, improve your blood flow and allows for more oxygen to circulate the body. This allows you to breathe easier and increases your exercise capacity.

While it is similar to Viagra in that it contains sildenafil, a tablet of Revatio only contains 20 mg of sildenafil.

It takes Revatio about 1 - 2 hours to be fully absorbed by the body before you are able to see a significant decrease in your blood pressure. Revation should be taken 3 times a day, with 4 to 6 hours between each dose.

What Is The Difference Between Viagra And Revatio?

While both Viagra and Revatio use sildenafil as their main active ingredient, their medical purposes, doses and strength are different.

Viagra is used to treat male erectile dysfunction, while Revatio is used to treat Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH).

Revatio is available in oral suspension, tablet and injection form, whereas Viagra is only available as a tablet.

Viagra is taken on an as-needed basis with doses ranging from 25 mg, 50 mg and 100 mg. Revatio on the other hand is taken 3 times daily and only comes in 20 mg doses.

Can I Use Revatio To Treat Erectile Dysfunction?

No.

While it is possible that Revatio can help with erectile dysfunction, it is specifically designed to treat Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH) and should not be used to treat erectile dysfunction or any other health issue.

Similarly, you should not use Viagra to treat PAH or any other health issue that is not erectile dysfunction.

While Revatio and Viagra both contain sildenafil as their main active ingredient, they differ in both strength and dose. Revatio is meant to be taken 3 times a day and comes in a smaller dose (20mg) whereas Viagra is meant to be taken as-needed and comes in 3 different doses (25 mg, 50 mg and 100 mg).
